Jim Olen

As the music industry searches for new and creative ways to increase exposure, advertising agencies (and the products they represent) are looking for a musical platform that best represents their brand.  With over 20 years of combined experience in both of these industries, Jim Olen finds himself uniquely positioned to help both parties achieve the success they seek.
From 1990–1996 Mr. Olen was fortunate to work in almost every aspect of commercial production.  His experience in sales, editing, graphics, film transfer, producing, and sound, not only gave him the well rounded knowledge needed to become a strong producer, but enabled him to build great relationships in the advertising world.

In 1996, Mr. Olen’s entrepreneurial sprit led him to start The Rhythm Café, Inc.  This commercial music facility quickly became one of the most successful “jingle houses” in Chicago.   To date, Mr. Olen has served as the musical Executive Producer on over 1,000 TV and Radio commercials.  This includes work for McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Gatorade, Budweiser, Minute Maid, Adidas, Toyota, and many more.  By producing a wide variety of musical genres, Jim Olen has gained a strong appreciation of every musical style.  Creatively, the projects have ranged from an 80 piece orchestra in Prague, a gospel choir in Kansas City, an old school hip-hop session in New York, and countless rock and R&B sessions in Chicago.  The Rhythm Café has also produced music for broadcast TV shows, including the Oprah Winfrey Show.

In addition to his creative duties, Mr. Olen’s business and people skills have helped him become a highly respected colleague in the national advertising community.  Mr. Olen has also expanded the services he provides by acting as a musical agent/broker. He has an uncanny knack for connecting the perfect recording artist or composer to the needs of the advertising agencies and their products. Success has recently come in the form of an EMMY win for HBO, the Global Business Coalition, and the NBA/Cares program.  Mr. Olen was responsible for connecting HBO with hip-hop legend Doug E. Fresh, and producing the music for the award winning PSA.
Mr. Olen has consulted both creative companies as well as many individual artists on how to best address their marketing needs and pursue their overall business goals.  Mr. Olen is an active member of the following organizations: AFM, SAG, AFTRA, ASCAP.
“I consider Jim Olen our personal think tank. So many times business owners are too close to certain situations to creatively come up with solutions. Jim first helps us brainstorm then helps us execute” Brad Slaughter / Bark Productions

“Jim likes to call it ‘connecting the dots’, but that makes it sound way too simple. It’s not easy to get all the right decision makers in a room, and then convince them that a creative collaboration would be in everyone’s best interest. Jim gets it done”.  Mark Cassidy / NBC Chicago
