Earthy yet eloquent, majestic yet refined - may best describe the music of the truly gifted young songwriting talent, singer and recording artist - Megan Krantz.
Growing up in Seattle, Megan at the age of six discovered her ideal toy; a Fischer Price Karaoke machine which became her first medium for artistic expression. Her love of Disney films influenced her artistic make-up immensely as she began writing and performing her first songs at the age of seven. An affinity with the arts in general, was a member of her church choir and participated in the church plays. Subsequently she studied acting from the ages of 8 through 13 taking classes at the Children's Theater and the Taproot Theater Company with aspirations of appearing on Broadway as an early lofty goal. Over time she began to experience a lack of fulfillment in acting; channeling the words and actions of a third party portraying characters in situations not relevant to her life. To the contrary, when composing music she discovered that she could actually create her own unique story of lyrics accompanied by a musical storyboard resulting in an entirely original musical creation which provided complete artistic expression and satisfaction. The short lived career as an actor was thwarted and a new vision of a singer/songwriter began to emerge.
While in high school, Megan began taking voice lessons and taught herself to play the stock "D, A & G" chords on the guitar sixteenth birthday present. After composing a small batch of songs and limited to only three chords, she began to experiment and to create her own chords which immediately expanded the realm of her songwriting.
In high school she wrote a musical, played the lead in her high school production of Fiddler on the Roof and soon began singing in jazz groups winning the coveted Ella Fitzgerald Award her senior year. All of this was a mere hobby until she played her first paying gig her senior year of high school. It was then that Megan Krantz realized that singing songs was what she was destined to do. During winter break from her first semester at Cornish College of the Arts, (Seattle), paid a visit to her sister in Chicago who introduced her to Goran Rajsic, the founder of Rosehip Records. Within quite literally a few short hours Megan Krantz had a record deal. In September '05 Megan took a break from school and moved to Chicago to record her debut album and grow artistically. For Megan Krantz, Writing and recording the album became my college education.
Megan reflects, on the inspiration to the song Approve Me, "For a time, I felt like I was losing who I was. I found myself conforming to my surroundings. Even watching the media, there's pressure to conform to society's norms. But then I realized it's not for man to judge me - that is reserved for God."
Describing what she was feeling while writing her album, Megan said, "I feel that the most important thing in my life is my relationship with God; a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Really, no matter where I go or what I do - if He's with me, I'm guaranteed peace. So Few Words is about wanting a deeper intimacy and accepting each other in love."
The diverse musical influences of Megan Krantz run the gamut from Reliant K, MxPx, John Mayer, Bjork, Michael Buble; to Fiona Apple, dc Talk, and Avril Lavigne. All the songs on Megan's debut album titled So Few Words were written by her. Megan's magic was then masterfully produced by Nick Monson and Andy Gallas at the studios of Rosehip Records.
Over the course of the next few months the world will be introduced to a very special talent; a talent so great and vast that at 21 years of age is at times, difficult to comprehend. Experience for yourself an artist who will lift up ones inner most emotions. |
